I used to think quick stretches would fix my computer posture.

But then I tried a different approach.

Reversing computer-related tension is a slow burn. My shoulders and hamstrings were 2 stubborn muscle groups. The internal rotation of my shoulders was excessive. My hamstrings were overused and shortened. This article talks about the 2 stretches that helped me fix those computer-related injuries.

And now I do long-duration stretches combined with breathwork.

Reversing computer-related tension is a slow burn.

A 30 second stretch may help temporarily.

But those same muscles tighten over an 8 hour work day.

And short-duration stretches never moved the needle for me.

Now, I do these long duration stretches instead:

⓵ Yoga cactus pose, while laying flat on the floor.

→ This helps release my excessive internal shoulder rotation.

→ Which was caused by holding a keyboard and mouse for long periods of time.

This is an example of a cactus yoga pose while laying flat on the ground. This is the best stretch I’ve found to reverse the computer-related tension in my shoulders (from holding a keyboard and mouse all day).

⓶ Laying flat on the floor with a foam roller under my hamstrings.

→ This helps release my overused, compressed hamstrings.

→ Which were caused by poor foot position at a computer, from pulling my feet underneath my chair.


I hold these positions for up to 5 minutes. Sometimes longer.

But most importantly, I focus on breathwork at the same time.

This force multiplies my results.

I breathe as slow and deep as possible.

Increasing the amount of air going in my lungs.

And the amount of time that air spends inside my lungs.
