This article is about 2 important things I wish I knew…
Before poor sitting posture broke me down…
Both physically and mentally.

Spinal Disc Degeneration and Posture: This is part 12 of my Computer Posture Key Terms series.
Spinal Disc Degeneration and Posture: What I Learned From Poor Sitting Habits
What is spinal disc degeneration
This is when the discs between the spinal vertebrae deteriorate.
It happened to me from slouching forward at my computer.
Slouching is a compromised position for the spine.
When in this vulnerable position for long periods of time…
2 things happen:
→ The discs can tear away from the vertebrae (from being overextended).
→ Or the discs can be crushed (from the pressure of the surrounding vertebrae).
I learned I had stage 1 spinal disc degeneration in 2011.
The damage already done to my discs is irreversible.
But I stopped the progression of further damage quickly.
By learning about neutral spinal position.
And keeping the natural curves of my spine intact.
Especially when I sit at a computer for long periods of time.
